Woven vs. Embroidered Patches: Which Should You Choose?

Choose woven if your artwork has small lettering, thin lines or fine color detail. Choose embroidered patches if you want a raised, textured look with bold shapes.

Woven patches are made from fine thread woven into a flat surface. Embroidered patches stitch thicker thread onto a fabric base, which adds texture and body but limits how small the detail can be. Customize Your Woven Patches: Colors, Shapes, Borders, Sizes and Backing

Every woven patch is made to order, so you set each detail.

Colors. Choose 1 to 8 colors, or 9 to 12 colors for more detailed artwork.

Shapes. Pick from 15 options, including circle, square, horizontal and vertical rectangles and ovals, diamond, top and bottom rockers, four shield styles and two custom shapes.

Borders. Merrow gives a classic thread-wrapped edge. Heat cut and laser cut give a flatter edge that follows your outline.

Sizes. Choose from 2" to 7" in 1" steps: 2", 3", 4", 5", 6" or 7".

Backing. Sew-on (no backing), iron-on, Velcro hook, Velcro loop, double Velcro, 3M self-adhesive or safety pin.

A woven patch is a fabric badge made by weaving fine thread into a flat design instead of stitching it on top of a base. The thinner thread lets small text, thin lines and detailed artwork stay readable. The result is smooth and low-profile, which makes woven patches a good fit for hats, uniforms, bags and brand labels.

What is the difference between woven and embroidered patches?

Woven patches use thinner thread woven into a flat surface, so they hold fine detail and small lettering. Embroidered patches stitch thicker thread onto a fabric base, which gives a raised, textured look but less precision. Choose woven for detailed logos and a flat finish. Choose embroidered for bold designs and a classic textured feel.

Are woven patches good for hats?

Yes. The flat, low-profile finish sits close to the fabric, and small lettering stays readable at hat-patch sizes. Our smallest size in the designer is 2" × 2". You can add iron-on, sew-on, Velcro or adhesive backing. If you need something smaller than 2", message us on WhatsApp before you order and we will tell you what is possible.

What is the minimum order for custom woven patches?

The minimum order is 10 pieces, and you can order up to 100,000. Enter your quantity in step 1 of the designer and the order summary updates as you choose options. Pricing tiers for your selected size appear after you pick a size, so you can see how the per-piece price changes at higher quantities.

How long do custom woven patches take?

Standard turnaround shows 7 business days for production plus 3 business days for shipping. Two slower options trade time for a discount: 10% off at 20 business days of production, and 20% off at 25 business days, or 40 business days by sea. Choose your turnaround in step 8 of the designer.

How much do custom woven patches cost?

Price depends on size, quantity, backing and border. The designer shows a unit price from per piece and updates your total as you choose each option. Larger quantities can lower the per-piece price, and the tier table appears once you select a size. Setup fee.

What backing options are available for woven patches?

You can choose from seven backings: sew-on (no backing), iron-on, Velcro hook, Velcro loop, double Velcro, 3M self-adhesive and safety pin. Sew-on suits permanent attachment. Iron-on is quick for hats and bags. Velcro lets you move a patch between garments. Pick your backing in step 6.

What file formats can I upload for woven patch artwork?
